CHICO, Calif. - Hundreds of people walked for "hope" in Chico on Saturday morning as part of an effort to find a cure for Huntington's disease.
Participants met at Cedar Grove in Bidwell Park and walked three miles to bring supporters together for what was called the Team Hope Walk.
The event was created to help improve the lives of people suffering from Huntington's disease and their families.
We hear from an organizer of the Team Hope Walk that was held in Chico. She and her family have been impacted by the incurable disease.
Debbie Hobbs was at the event. She was one of the organizers.
Hobbs said, "My husband has Huntington's. It's in my family."
"People need to be aware," she added.
As Hobbs gathered with her family she talked about her husband who used to drive around town, sometimes appearing to be reckless. "People thought he was drunk," she said, "but he wasn't. It was just because of this disease," she explained.
Huntington's disease is genetic, fatal and incurable. About 30,000 people in the United States have the disease.
This was the first walk of many, organizers hope. They want to produce the event annually in Chico.
