I am Susan Reynolds, MSW, LICSW, and am delighted to join HDSA Orange County as the chapter social worker. Prior to moving to California, I worked as a licensed independent clinical social worker at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) HD Center of Excellence for 7 ½ years. I continue to facilitate a support group for WA HDSA via Zoom. I am also serving as the social worker for the HDSA San Diego County chapter and was able to participate in their Team Hope Walk in October 2021 where I began meeting community members. I am looking forward to meeting the Orange County HDSA community and facilitating local support groups.

My clinical background includes working in skilled nursing facilities, home health, and hospice. I have provided oversight of a hospice volunteer program, coordinated HD continuing education opportunities through UWMC and WA state, and presented at national HDSA conventions on topics including living positively with HD, Advance Directives, and grief and loss support. Other work experience includes comprehensive assessment of emotional and support needs, resource brokering, and networking with social workers and other professionals locally and nationally.

I have worked with State and Federal programs for disability and health insurance, as well as assisting individuals with finding in-home care and housing resources. I strive to develop strong relationships in the community and maintain current knowledge of counseling, housing, nutrition, medical, and other necessary resources for individuals, families, and caregivers affected by HD. I am also in the process of becoming a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in CA. I look forward to working closely with Orange County HDSA in 2022.
